I'm making this site to help me keep track of my progress regarding various interests and to hopefully motivate me (and you maybe!?)
Right now, mid 2025, I'm re-learning how to draw. I've always loved drawing but when I was in highschool all I was doing was copying other people's drawings from my phone onto paper. And there's nothing wrong with copying other people's drawings, as long as you don't try to pass it off as yours or try to monetize it, it should be for your own enjoyment/development.
But at the time I somehow thought that was it, I'm an artist! I can replicate any drawing almost perfectly! No construction lines, no knowledge on anatomy, only matching proportions, which is not a bad skill to have at all! But I knew that I wasn't able to create something from scratch on my own.
A few years ago with the pandemic I tried to use my free time to just sit down and draw things that popped up in my head, thinking I already knew how to draw the things I wanted to draw, but at one point it became obvious, most of the time I disliked what I drew or didn't even know how to approach an idea in my head because it was "too ambitious" so I ended up feeling bad for even thinking about trying to draw. I had consumed so much art from so many different artists as well so much knowledge on how to draw (from the internet mostly) And had spent so many hours copying drawings in highschool that I thought I should already be able to plaster onto the page anything I could imagine. In reality, I had almost never applied any of that knowledge to an actual piece of paper or practiced and didn't want to admit it
So I am now happily "accepting defeat" but not by giving up, instead by sitting down and trying to learn from the beginning. I realized there's so much mental preparation that goes into art that I never thought about but that was part of why I was feeling so bad. There's a lot of videos for drawing/art that I'll share here that might help someone else out
Now I feel a lot better about starting from scratch and drawing stuff without having it look exactly how I want it which is a great way to help you stay consistent.
